Since a young age dance has been a very significant part of my life. With numerous amounts of exams and countless hours of practice I was consumed by dance and its beauty.
Dancing is a powerful and dynamic experience, however I believe art will never encompass the elusive and euphoric atmosphere equally. Accordingly this project attempts to capture dance distinctively, largely concentrating on the strength and skill of the dancer. Therefore this project is personal, reflecting both my emotions and interest in the human form.
Following on from the extensive research and discussion within my dissertation; this series of images investigates into how movements and expressive dance can be captured within the art form of photography. Edited in high contrast black and white my aim was to provide little distraction away from the core focal point of the photographs. Primarily I focused on the strength yet elegance of the human body, whilst paying particular attention to the details of the muscular structure. By exploring the countless shapes and compositions that the human muscular form can achieve, my work developed and refined into a unique and effective signature style. This has enabled me to brand myself, progressively moving into my fashion work.
This entire project will be exhibited from the 10th - 13th June 2015 in Blackall Studios in Shoreditch, London. www.thisisgradshow.co.uk
