So you have chosen an incredible venue? You thought a lot about the spot where you say your I do's? Where you get ready might seem like a decision that holds little importance. However, personally I think the "getting ready" location is such an important part of your day for so many reasons. You want to feel relaxed, you don't want to be cramped together or fighting for the best spot to check your makeup. Today, from a photographic standpoint, I'm sharing a few tips for choosing the perfect location, and I promise you will be glad you thought a little harder about it. 01THE LOCATION When choosing where to get ready the main thing to think about is the location. Is the room in the hotel you're getting married at or near to the church? Or at home? Make sure this works for you and doesn't add additional stress to your morning. You ideally don't want to be too far away from your ceremony venue. 02THE SPACE Is the room, airbnb, house you're getting ready at big enough for you and your bridal party? The last thing you want is to be cramped into a tiny room, fighting with each other for space. You will quickly get stressed and frustrated! Make sure you have breathing space and an area to dump the suitcases so they're out of your photographs! 03THE LIGHT For a photographer this is probably the most important part of bridal prep locations. Many hotel rooms are dark and even the makeup artist will struggle to get some nice natural light so your makeup looks flawless. Big windows are key and the best way to get those light and airy romantic photographs. On the other hand, these spaces can cause dramatic lighting which does look ace if you're into artsy photography. 04BE TIDY Keeping the room tidy will not only make you feel more relaxed, but it will also be so much nicer for your photographs! There's nothing worse than a backdrop of a half-eaten sandwich, a pair of discarded pants or a shoebox isn’t going to help you create the images you’re after. Though, don’t you spend your wedding morning tidying up! This is a great job to delegate to your bridal party. 05GET READY EARLY Getting into your dress as early as you can can alleviate the rush stress but also allows for you to settle into that tight corset and have a moment to soak it all in as your photographer takes some beautiful bridal portrait. 06ALL IN THE DETAILS Hang your dress up ready for your photographer and put all your details in one place so that when they arrive they can straight away get these beautiful sentimental shots. 07LOOKING GOOD Also, invest in having your hair and makeup done professionally. They will need to last through a busy day and as you party the night away. You cannot beat having an expert finish on this and when you look back at your photos you will be so glad you did! Plus, on the day of the wedding you really won’t have time to do this yourself so save yourself the stress and have a professional do it for you. When having your makeup done, make sure to sit near a window for the best lighting. 08HAVE A GOOD TIME! SMILE!! Make sure you have fun and a laugh with your girls on the morning of your wedding. Create the perfect getting ready playlist. Keep the tracks upbeat and fun for you and the gang to listen and dance to while you get ready. Getting ready for your wedding is such a big part of your day and if you would like me to be the one to capture these memories for you, please get in touch to check my availability.
