When you start your wedding planning journey the first thing usually on your list to organise is the venue! So when it comes to choosing your photographer, many couples look at the recommended list or photographers who have photographed that wedding venue before. At most consultations I am asked, have you photographed at our venue before? So I am here to answer the frequently asked question; HAVE YOU PHOTOGRAPHED AT OUR WEDDING VENUE BEFORE? So I’m here to confidently reassure you this really isn’t a big deal. Read below to explain why it certainly shouldn’t be a deal breaker when choosing your dream photographer! Venues are never the same from wedding to wedding. The most important thing about being a wedding photographer is consistency. So, more importantly than having worked at a venue before is knowing how to deal with different lighting and weather conditions. This technical knowledge is what creates the consistency in my photography style. Even if I’ve worked at a location before, I can almost guarantee that something will be different each time I’m there. Each season brings new light, colour and tones to your venue and the location it sits within. A good photographer can work anywhere and deal with any kind of light, weather or season. It's not all about the location... I’ve worked in an array of venues. From grand manor houses to rustic barns, intimate registry offices and even village halls with no outside space. Of course, a beautiful location makes it easier, but a good photographer will be able to provide you with beautiful photos no matter where we are! You'll be surprised what we can sprinkle glitter on. Inspiring creativity and a unique outlook. Working at a new venue is seeing it through completely fresh eyes meaning I will approach the way I shoot there in a unique way. So instead of turning on auto pilot, going to the same spots to take the same photographs that are always taken at the venue, we will end up creating something around you and your love story! This is usually when I create my best work. I’m always prepared.
If it’s my first time working at a venue or not I always factor in plenty of time on the morning of the wedding to get to know the surroundings. A short walk around the venue whilst I finish my coffee is the best way to ease me into your day. I also get some lovely establishing venue shots whilst I do. I also always check the weather forecast and my trusted 'Lumos' App that tells me exactly where and what time the sun sets! I also say hello to the wedding co-ordinator and check if there's anything I need to know about the day from them. Conclusively, I hope this blog has answered the frequently asked question about whether it is important that your photographer has photographed at your venue or not. In short, I may not have photographed your wedding venue before but, it really doesn’t matter either way! The connection you have with your photographer is far more important. If you still feel it is important for your photographer to at least view your venue beforehand, more often than not it is possible for them to meet you there before your big day to have a scout around.
